My name is Wednesday & this is my family

Why am I just now eating African Cuisine

Do you know what’s exciting about life?

Living it, That’s what! Me and my family love going out and exploring our city. We would love to be able to branch out and vacation abroad in the near future.

We went to an African Restaurant that Christian learned about from a student at work last week. Eager to try it he called me super excited over the phone raving about what she had raved about and it was so cute to hear.

The student was from Ghana and when she learned about his family she suggested we try this restaurant, assuming he had explained to her my deep connection to the motherland and doing DNA kits to find my tribe.

Anyway when he called me and suggested it I said with much excitement heck yeah.

Me & my daughter at the African restaurant

Saturday came and we packed little miss Solana in the car and we headed out, a 25 minute car ride witch nice chats and good good music seemed more like 10.

We finally arrived to the restaurant looked on the menu with uncertainty but great anticipation.

we ordered Jollof rice with tofu for me and chicken for Christian, we also had Sukuma Wiki with Fufu and Solana had a variety of whatever she wanted from our plates. Words can’t describe how delicious the food was and I’ve never been so happy while enjoying a meal.

Jollof Rice with tofu and the other with chicken, Sukuma Wiki and Fufu with ginger beer and orange soda

From the moment we finished saying our prayers and ending it with an Ase, I grabbed my fork very quickly but also reminding myself to be calm. I took my fork and I scooped up a bite full of Joloff Rice and put it in my mouth. With no expectations on what was going to happen next. My eyes lit up and my soul began to dance. Oh my gosh!!! Where the next words that came out of my mouth. I looked at Christian and I could see in his eyes that he was enjoying it as much as I was. After shoveling bite after bite I had to remind myself slow down let your daughter have some. Hahaha, I shared and so did Christian. Up next was the Sukuma Wiki with Fufu. Now I’ve heard about Fufu and I’ve seen it before, not in person of course. I am almost embarrassed to write this next part but dammit it’s important. I grabbed a piece of the fufu and took a bite, then I grabbed it with a fork and dipped it into the Sukuma Wiki. I then looked around for someone who worked there and I saw they were helping other people so I grabbed my phone and went to the internet and typed in, How to correctly eat FuFu and soup? Still consuming the food on my plate I’ve and Christian watched the video and saw this cute black couple giving us what we needed. You take the fufu roll it into a ball, dip it in the soup and as you place it in your mouth swallow the fufu without chewing and chew the soup and or Sukuma Wiki.

Solana excited to see the food

Thank god for the internet. Well you know what I mean.

After we’ve successfully eaten until our bellies were full we looked at one another and just kept saying how delicious our meals were and how we vow to make the 25 minute drive at least once a month and partake in the cuisine of the Motherland.

Moral of this post is explore your city, step out of your comfort zone and enjoy living.
